Eductours (June 2016)

On the last 26th of May and 9th of June 2016, Alterural organized an educational tour to Vares (Village of Strica) for the pupils of Primary School BLOOM from Sarajevo. Within their arrival, the children were welcomed by the members of partnering women association with homemade pastry and dressed-up in traditional costume. They introduced the region of Vares and presented some of the traditional textile crafts.

After a delicious introductory break, children continued their visit to the village of Strica where they made a tour at local homemade pasta producer and cheese production farm.

The group, composed of 31 children from 8 to 11 years accompanied by their teachers, were offered pasta flavored with local cheese for the lunch homemade.

Afterwards, children had some leisure time to enjoy the surrounding while playing soccer. In the afternoon, we held a presentation about different plants and herbs. The children had a possibility to learn more about the health benefits of certain plants but also to ask questions. We were fortunate with a pleasant weather and children learnt more about farm life and its related activities.

For the hosting rural families, this was an occasion to introduce their everyday activities and products. Our young visitors were enthusiastic to bring cheese and pasta products for tasting to their parents and siblings.

On the 23rd, 30th and 31st of May 2016, Alterural also accompanied 3 groups of students from CIFS, the International French school of Sarajevo with a destination to Fojnica. In each group, there were approximately 30 students accompanied by their teachers and two staff from Alterural.

Shortly after their arrival in Fojnica, the groups were welcomed by a local guide from the village of Obojak. Leaded by the guide, the children went on hiking around the hills and our guide explained the area as well as the charcoal production process.

After the hike, children were invited to have a lunch at a local farm where the host showed the farm with the domestic animals and explained the process of cheese making. The children seemed excited about the trip especially farm visits where they could discover farm activities and spot domestic animals.  In the afternoon, they paid a last visit to the Museum of Fojnica Monastery to learn about the medieval period in BiH.
