Visit to Tajan and Vareš (July 2017)
As part of the project "Buliding up rural tourism destinations around Sarajevo to diversify of rural economy", which has been funded by the EU, Alterural organized a study visit to the monument of Tajan Nature and the villages Strica and Zarudje in Vareš.
The study visit was organized on 12th and 13th of July 2017 for representatives of associations and organizations involved in the project and interested in joining the rural tourism cluster, with the aim of exchanging experiences and visiting good practice examples.
On the first day of the visit, the participants visited the Tajan Nature Monument between Zavidovići and Kakanj. The area of the Monument of Nature is rich in clean watercourses, canyons, speleological objects and endemic plants and animals. The wider area of Tajan, area about 50 km2, was declared protected during the year 2008. As part of the project funded by EU funds, Tajan has been is featuring hiking and cycling trails, tourist signaling, a tourist information center and equipment for mountain biking, speleology and hiking.
Nearby is the Monument of Nature and Rural Housing Menzil in Kamenica. The owners of this rural household started to engage in rural tourism among the first in this area. The members of the cluster are the accommodation providers in Kamenica, which currently houses 15 households / weekend houses. The Menzil family owns several rental bungalows, deals with bee-keeping, and serves exclusively home-grown food and products to their guests.






After the household of Menzil, the employees of the Tourist Info Center in Kamenica presented their activities and work to accompany the certified guide and guardians in the Monument of Nature and visit the Cave of the Srednje stijene, a valuable speleological object known for its beauty and the number of cave decorations and opened for tourist visits.
On the second day, they visited villages Strica and Zarudje in the municipality of Vareš. On this occasion, they visited the Farm "Zaruđe" and the "Wigwam" excursion site where they met the production of cheese and then visited the farm of the donkeys and pasta producers PD "Grga".
As Strica is known as a village that has been engaged in rural tourism since 1983, the tourists visited Strica and Gajina's house, one of the houses rented to tourists.
