Tourism trends in Bosnia and Herzegovina (september 2013)

Bosnia-and-Herzegovina is still one unrevealed tourism destination in Europe and offers many beautiful natural areas with wonderful mountains, lakes, preserved primary forest and rivers. National and foreign tourists are more and more aware of sustainability issues, healthy way of life and their vacations´ quality with ethical considerations. They are especially interested to discover offers in countryside.

Last official statistics show that during summer 2013, 10% more tourists visited the Country compared to 2012 as a good indicator of tourism potential development. This trend is fastly growing since 2010 to reach nearly half a million international arrivals. Main rural tourist attractions this summer were ethno villages Stanisici in Bijeljina and Grabovica on Buško lake, as well as Andrićgrad in Višegrad and other smaller sites throughout the Country. Even though there are a majority of tourists coming from the neighboring countries and Europe, new visitors come as well from the Middle East and Turkey with direct flights. Other often visited natural destinations are Bjelašnica, Jahorina and Vranica mountains easy to reach from Sarajevo. Since two years, rural tourism has an increased demand from independent travelers in search for authenticity. Many wish to discover the inhabitants´traditions and share their daily life such as participating in farming activities.
